bought a used 2004 450R for $5,000 with a HRC kit and some other extras. WOW this thing is insane. first time i took it out, didnt have a helmet on (first time i did that in a long time, i always wear my helmet) and my hat flew off like 5 times. i cant even give it full throttle i only get to half throttle and i get yanked back and its always screaming like crazy. i love this thing. HUGE!! difference compared to my 300ex i used to have. i even get it in 5th gear. (guys says it goes 90mph with a HRC kit....i dont really believe that) i love this thing to death. only thing i dont like is the high first gear. really isnt as bad as people said it was. but it does kinda suck somtimes. (i stalled it a few times, but im not really used to it yet)
i remember peopling saying you can wheelie in 4th gear.... i cant. i donno if thats using the clutch or not but i cant. i can barly get to wheelie in 3rd gear. but 1st and 2nd...all u need a blip of the throttle and front end comes up. so. eithier its not tuned 100% right or im not doing somthing right. but this thing still rules. i cant wait to compare it to some of the YFZ's in my area. (which most are stock.) check out my profile..i got a couple pics of it. no big deal tho.. just another 450R on the forum! sorry for this pointless thread just wanted everyone to know that i finally got one!!

Oil-- Change your engine oil often! My preference is ester synthetic Maxima Extra or Ultra. And run real manual trans lube in the transmission (like you would in a 2-stroke), not just some wimpy engine oil. My preference here is Maxima MTL. In this article, everything that goes for the CRF dirt bikes, also goes for your R--> http://www.thumperfaq.com/oil.htm

Gearing-- If you are a trail rider, you might want to consider some gearing changes.
Starting-- If you have trouble starting it, let us know. When HOT, if you give it any throtle at all, it will flood out (then you will have to kick it over a bunch of times to clear the carb). Just pull the hot start, and don't touch the throtle until it has already come to life.

Congrats on your 450R. Hope you have fun on it. I am hoping to sell my Blasty within the next year or so and buy a new 400ex or 450R.
I am so proud of myself for saving up that much money, I am only 15 and I am going to pay for it all.

i have a question for other 450R owners... when your in 1st gear..going very slow (yes i know its not ment to go slow) and you blip the throttle just a tiny bit... i hear a weird noise. like its comming from the chain. is that normal? chain is new.. lubed up good. and it is set perfect. but still seems to make a weird noise when i do that. but when im going faster and blip the throttle i doesnt do it.

and i NEVER slip the clutch. punch it and yank it and it will come up in any gear

hey just giving you some advice....when i first got my 450r i hated the gears they were way to long compared to my 250r wich is a 6 speed.....drop one tooth on the front sprocket it makes a world of a difference

haha same here. except im 17 now. been saving for years on on a quad (never knew which one to get, but i knew id buy a good one eventually) i was actually going to buy a 400ex... becasue my neighbor has one, and its a really fun quad to ride. i remember him telling me he paid about $4800 for his brand new back in 2004. but when i seen this 2004 450R for only $5200... (which i then talked him down to $5,000) i thought this would be a great deal. plus it had a HRC kit in it already. so i couldnt pass up this deal. it is sooooo worth it. my neighbor will be home this weekend, and well do some tests. i wanna see how my quad and his compare. if i were you... keep an eye out for a deal on a 450R.
