problem Need a fast response please
sup guys.. i have a 2001 honda 400ex. Im currently trying to install a new steering stem. I got the old one out and i need to replace the bearings also. The bottom bearing is rusted in. I cannot get it out. I tried wd40 and everything.. Is it supposed to come out from the top or the bottom? Any suggestions?

After you take the steering stem out, look for an internal c-clip on the top side of the bearing. Remove it and then pound out the bearing from the bottom of the quad towards the gas tank. Helps to just stand the quad up on the rear grab bar (turn the gas off). You will have to remove the skidplate if you have one.
good luck.

ok well i took out the c clip. I got the middle part of the bearing out... The sides are still stuck in there *cry* What can i do? I sprayed rust remover spray on it and im gonna let it soak overnight. It seems that the sides of the bearing is all the way at the bottom and it needs to be pushed down rather then pushed up. I will take some pics tomorrow and show u guys what im talking about. Anymore suggestions? Im ready to just bring it to the dealer becuase im so fed up with it. But that will be my last resort.

I had the same problem on my R's bearing. I tried everyrthing to get it out, finally i had to take air chisel and put a punch in it and that finally got it out. I sprayed it with PB blaster and everything to try to get it out. Finally the air chisel got it out.

You should know whether the outer race came out with the bearing. If the bearing was in pieces, you are probably right that it is still in there. You have to drive it out with a socket that just fits. You drive it out from the bottom with the quad standing up on end.
You could also use a dremel with the wheel cutter to slowly cut through the outer race.
