400ex reliability

how have yours stood up to punishment? i am thinking about getting a used one and was wondering if they have anything i should look for.

I had no trouble out of the 1 I had for about a year. If you get a used 400ex and if you want maximum reliability, don't get one that has a big-bore kit, camshaft change, piston change, or anything else that has altered the top end of the motor. I have noticed that they are just not as reliable. Just my thoughts!

how about a rev kit and pipe, will this affect reliability? I'm looking at a used one right now.

I think the rev kit COULD affect reliability, since it's possible that they've overrevved the he11 outta the engine. But, most likely it's fine. Personally, I don't trust myself enough to remove the rev limiter, it kinda idiot-proofs the engine, hehe. Plus, I've only heard it hit the rev limiter a couple times, and every time it was on accident, and I'm glad it was there.

thanks for the tps, there are a lot of 400ex's over here with pipes on them, how do they hold up to them?
