specs/info on rubicon differential
#1
Hello, I'm on my college's FSAE team and we were thinking of using the rubicon LSD for our car this year. It is apparently a very popular differential for a lot of formula teams. I can't however find any specs or information on this differential anywhere.
1)Does anyone up here know anything specific about this differential besides its clutchless, torque-sensing, etc.. I need to find some quantitative data or someone that can help me find that info.
2)Also does anyone know where and how much $$ i can find one of these differentials for?
Thank you for any help you guys can give me!!

A few years ago, popular mechanics had a story on it. I believe it was the june 00 issue. Theres still part of that story online here.

They call the differential suretrac, so you can do a google search on that term. Honda licenced the differential from land rover.
Remember that its only the front differential that has it, the back diff is a spool. The foremans, and rincons also use this differential, i believe 98 was the year it was first used, before then, the diffs were clutch packs. Im not sure which year the ranchers started using it.
You can do a search on ebay, i know ive seen them before. Are you looking for the housing and inside guts? or just the differential?
If you are looking for specific specs, and assembly and disassembly, then get the factory service manual. They arent the easiest differential to understand, they use face cams and followers, nothing to wear out, if its properly lubed.. The little followers, are very precision, and are a matched set. Im not sure what the bias is, probably 5 to one or 7 to one.
This is probably one of the most under rated, but excellant differentials out there. Another good choice, but may be harder to come by, would be the differential from a bomb outlander, its a viscous coupling, and it also works very well.

That would be a rancher, and depending on the year,it might have it. It seems like once they went to traxlox (fancy name for selectable 4wd/2wd), the differential is the suretrac. Im mostly familiar with the foreman, but if you let me know the year of that rancher, i think we can find the answer.

Im checking...maybe you might want to get the axles too, youll need the stubs, which are splined, for what ever youre gonna make, they might be cheap.
In the mean time, if anyone else know for sure , like knowsalot, let us know.
I also started another thread, to ask on this.

Im pretty sure it is, but id hate to say it is, then have you buy it, and find out it isnt.
