As the first post degenerated into a bash session, I am starting another in hopes there will be positive or helpful information only posted.

In the first post someone had reported stiffness or reluctance the shift lever to go from one postion to another. I recently had trouble going from reverse to neutral and from a forward position back to neutral. It occurred on an incline and not on level ground. The shift lever could be moved, but it was harder than it normally is. I did not see anything about how to adjust the linkage in the shop manual. Has anyone had this problema and if so, how did you solve it?

Thanks

Just before you come to a stop, hit the brakes. Use the brakes to stop the last 4 or 5 MPH and hold them on until you shift. This is the simplest way I know of to eliminate hard shifting on an incline.

I actually had this problem on my driveway this weekend. I had backed it down the driveway and left it parked in reverse with the brake on. I had trouble getting it into neutral to start it. The easiest solution I see is to give it the ability to start in reverse. Again this was on a pretty good incline. I didnt think much of it.

Try grabbing the left brake and rock the machine forward and back while simultaneously moving the shift lever. I know it sounds like a lot but it works.

Rocking the machine did not work like it does on my Rancher. On the Rancher I can rock it once or twice and it falls out of gear. I rocked this thing for like 2 mins before it came out. It was definately not a normal sitation.

Hey Txdoc
I was the one that had the shift problem the first time. Since then I haven't had a problem, sometimes I have to rock it a little. It seems to be less difficult if I switch to nuetral as soon as I come to a stop. I rode about 30 miles this weekend and I can't remember having a problem at all

Thanks for the replies. I wondered if you had to do some linkage adjustment, or not. When you first posted that, I had not had any difficulty. But, I did this weekend. At least I have not "holed" a piston, yet

No adjustments here, I seem to push a little harder on the button now. Don't know if that was the problem or not. Just glad it stopped.

Rocking the Rubicon to get it into neutral is not just a Honda issue, notice I didn't say problem. I rode a friend Kodiak & tried out the park feature on the transmission. This is a nice feature. Anyways had to rock the Kodiak back & forth a couple of time to get the gear selector in to neutral.
