Default Initial Maintenance

Just got a 2005 Rancher. Someone told me that with the initial maintenance that i should have the valve clearance adjusted. Is this a high priority or would just oil change be sufficient.

Nooo. You need to adjust/check more than just your valves. Everything that could go wrong from manufacture defect will most likely happen in the first few hours of use.

On a new machine, I change my engine oil and filter, and differential oils after just an hour or so. This gets the metal flakes out of the engine and diff right away. I change engine oil and filter again at 10 hrs. At 20 hrs. I switch to an ester synthetic engine oil (Maxima Extra) and Mobil 1 gear lube (75W90) in the diffs. Do a valve adjustment after about 20 hours.
