Default Tight Valves? grinding noise?

What do tight valves sound like. I set my valves on the rancher at .006 at tdc. They where way out probably .012.

I adjusted my rancher valves and the tapping is gone. I noticed a grinding sound coming from somewhere. It may have always been there I'm not sure (the valves were loud). It's a low rpm grind its not at the same speed as the engine. I thought it was the heat sheild at first but its not.

Clutch pulls good. If I turn the idle up it will lunge forward then roll back about an inch. Had no affect on the sound.I reset the idle so the clutch doesn't burn. Transmission works perfect.
Engine is strong no smoke.

I can't decide what it is. Any ides.

give the valves a couple hours they go right back to making noise, i've done mine 3 times only for them to make noise within 40 miles, don't worry u won't hear the grinding soon

When adjusting valves, it's better to err towards a loose setting than a tight one. I have known some motorcycle engines and one auto engine in particular that if you set the valve clearance too tight, the valves will not seat properly and could possibly burn.
If they are ticking, you know the valves are seating.
My 4 cents worth.

Tight valves usually don't make noise, which is alot worse then having loose ones.

Don't worry to much about the Chattering, Hondas are known for it. Its annoying as hell, but nothing you can do.

Just as long as you were not using a MM Feeler guage, you should be alright? Where is the Grinding coming from?

I set them at .006 inch /.152mm

Motor runs perfect and has no knocks or ticks. I can't figure out if this grinding sound is internal or not. Its very low and only happens once every second or so. Its not something internal spinning 1000's of rpms. I think its clutch related.
