Default More power?

I have a 1992 Honda 300 fourtrax that is starting to lose some power. The bike has been used quite a bit for hauling out wood. What would you recomend would be the best idea to possible get some power back. I was thinking maybe of new rings and seals but I don't really know what would be the best to do. Not sure if I am going to do anything, but just wanted to see what would possibly help.

I just cleaned the air filter a little bit ago. How do I check valve adustment, and would buying a new air filter help do you think, like a uni filter or even a stock one?

check the compression. that will tell you if you need new rings. do a leak down test. that will tell you if you need new seals. what kind of load have you been putting on the motor? do you tow a trailer with wood or do you just put wood on the bike? if your putting a good size load on it i would definatly check the clutch out too! do you still have the stock air filter in it? if so i would definatly replace it. probably not worth cleaning.

Hauling wood we use a trailor with a pretty good size load I would say, and it used to be used to haul a lot of wood, and logs. I do still have a stock air filter. What would you recomend for an air filter? To get a compression and leak test, how do I do it, or where do I take it?

I would reccomend a UNI foam filter. and if you are pulling a trailer then i would suspect your rings are definatly shot. do some research. look around and see if you can find any small engine shops. as a last resort and only a last resort take it to honda and they will tell you whats going on, FOR A PRETTY PENNY!!!! if you need moer than rings... which you probably do. you may want to send the motor down to a shop like EastCoastATV or PowerRoll or some place like that and have them go through the motor and rebuild it. I think it would still be cheaper to rebuild the 300 motor than to go buy a new bike!

I was thinking of maybe getting a uni filter, I think I will order one when I go to get my new tires put on the bike. I bought a set of bear claws b/c I wanted to make sure the bike would have enough power to turn them mainly. I do know of one small engine repair shop that put new rings I think in an engine of a buddy of mine, I think it was a warrior and got lots of power back. I don't think it cost too much either. I might have to check it out. Thanks alot for the advice.
