Default broken shift shaft

The shaft that the shifter mounts on broke in two. Do the engine cases have to be split of can you take the right cover off and get it out?

Thanks,

Jon

Checked out the diagrams and the cases do have to be split. The part is not just a straight shaft that could be pulled through like on some older 2-stroke engines. It has two fork like prongs attached to it.

I also verified on another web forum.

Plan to have the shifter welded on and then deal with it later when the engine needs to be taken apart for another reason. I am going to have a professional welder do it though so the oil seal doesn't get ruined.
