Does it hurt the engine or transmission on the 400ex to rev it to full throttle in gears 1-4 and hold it there for about ten seconds? What is the difference if any is there between revving the engine to full throttle in gears 1-4 compared to 5th gear?

Thanks,

Anthony

Seems like it would be kind of harsh on the engine. You're supposed to shift when the rpms of each gear reach their max. I wouldn't rev it too high with the clutch in though, thats how Dirtwheels claim that they blew the clutch out on the EX they were testing.

Why would you want to hold it at redline for 10 seconds? You won't be accelerating any, just bouncing off the rev limiter. Upshift when you run out of RPMs. And, of course running an engine at high RPMs will be more harmful than lower RPMs, but you won't grenade the motor or tranny by running high RPMs, if that's what you're asking.

It sounds to me like you need a 2-stroke.
