IMS 440 Kit
#1
I've been told that IMS 440 11:1 kits are the bottom of the line compared to other 440 kits. I found this out after I bought parts. In addition to the kit I'm installing a CT/Web cam, rockers and a port job. Can anyone give me any feed back on this issue. Do I need to hard face rockers? Tear down begins Monday.

I don't know anything about IMS being BOTTOM of the line anything.I have one in my 2000ex and don't have any complaints.Although to answer your question I won't be able to help you because I bought this unit completed and I am not a wrencher to be honest. But it is the sh-t here in central Pa.I am having a ball with it and causing a ruckuss every where I take it. SAMMY

There's a couple ways to do a 440 "kit".
First is the selection of piston. The "kits" that include the JE Pistons as opposed to Wiseco are better - I believe IMS offers it either way.
2nd is the setup that requires case boring vs the kind that does not. Obviously the one that requires boring is stronger and better. The IMS kit has the tapered sleeve that does not require case boring. Places like Curtis Sparks use the straight sleeve that does require case boring.
You will probably be fine with either setup though....
