I was wondering if a tachometer and/or speedometer could be put on a 400EX and where you could get them? My EX has an LA Sleeve bored to 453 cc's with Web cam, mild porting, 170 main w/o lid, white bro's CDI and full E-Series exhaust, 11:1 compression running on 112 octane, I geared it up to 16/36 with 22 inch tires, i belive it's in the 80 mph range, the bigger tires helped greatly for gearing and traction(Realtors-awsome!)Does anyone know when mine cuts out with White Brothers CDI Box? Stock is 9100 I beleive, In 500 foot dirt drag races I'm beating Raptors, not by much though and I don't think they were as good as riders as me.

Lots of guys use a quality bicycle speedo or a GPS unit to determine speed. Not sure about a tach though. Who built your engine? First 453 I have heard of. Have you ran any other 400ex big bores? Does your run a bit hot? Mysterious that I posted a reply earlier and it just disappeared (and it was'nt negative). Anyway...good luck!

Wow, first of all, nice EX!! Second, I put a bicycle speedo on my 400ex, used the kind with a magnetic pickup and mounted it to the left front spindle, then epoxied a magnet onto the inside of the rim. I looked pretty hard for a tach for my 400ex when I got it, and all I came up with is that Auto Meter makes a small tachometer for JR. dragsters, which are one-cylinder 4-strokes, so I think it would work ok on the EX, but it's a little over 100 bucks, so I never bought it.

Thanks for the information and complements, yep I love my EX. I haven't had any problems with the 453 cc sleeve, my local honda dealer did it. It doesn't heat up or vibrate much more than stock. I have seen a 480EX but thats about the limit, they get too hot and are unreliable, mine is very reliable. All I do is ride trails with it and it's a great machine.

Well, I've only had mine up to like 58mph, but I assume that it'll go to 99mph. Since it's adjustable for tire size, it would have to be able to calculate speed for a wide range of input frequencies from the sensor, so the only limitation should be the display (which is two digits). That and, I think it said on the manual it'll go to 99mph, but I can't find it, so I can't really confirm that.
