Honda foreman fourtrax 500 4x4 questions

First off I would like to know what kind of mileage you guys get out of a tank of gas riding it really hard and then mild. How fast can it go and how good is the stock 4x4 system. I also would like to know if 5,649 is a good price for one and thats before tax or title. thanks a lot.

Great working machine, not very sporty. Good size tank, I get a days riding with a full tank. I have had a recall for the clutch plate, make sure and check that. That price is fair but the 05's are last years model, keep shopping or negotiating. Good luck.

I'am getting around 100miles to a tank...Top speed is 96kmh I guess thats around 58mph then it will cut out (speed-limiter) The quad handles great lots of low end power...The stock 4x4 system works good for me but I'am not a real big mudder...

I usually get around 70 miles to a tank full, that is not using the reserve. I weigh around 320lbs so my gas milage is a little less. I believe the 4x4 system is great. I have only gotten stuck because of ground clearence (they could use a few more inches) and ruts, but everything soupy I have taken it in,it came out ready for more. That's not a bad price, but with the '06's out that should give you a better bargaining chip.

Do you have any clue how fast it will go without the speed limiter and is that easy to remove. I don't think I can get it any lower but I hope i can i even talked about getting a brute force 750 in front of her and she didn't lower and I actually think I might get it instead cause i can get that for like 6300 what are your guys opinions. The main reason I want the honda is cause I plan on driving it a lot and i hear the brute is horrible on gas. Thanks again.

If I recall, I paid like $5700 out the door for mine, and that was when they were pretty new on the market. I would think you should be able to find a leftover 05 somewhere for less than that now.
I also looked really hard at the BF750, but I was really interested in long term reliability. Although some belt drive systems out today are pretty good, I think most people would agree that a gear on gear transmission would be less likley to leave you hikin'.
I know mine can go through the whole tank in a really long day of riding, if most of the riding is in 4x4. Mine seems to wrap out at around 52 mph or so, but that's on dirt and loaded down with gear.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with mine. Sometimes I wish it had independent rear suspension. I think the 4x4 system is pretty good, but I think it would do better in some situations if it had a locker. Seems like sometimes it has already started to dig it's self a hole by the time it starts sending any significant power to whichever front wheel is spinning...

I just picked up a trx500tm. I know I'm going to get crap for saying this, but, here in AZ, I really don't need the 4x4. Of course we don't get swampy here, or too muddy. With all my other utility quads, I never met a hill I couldn't climb in 2x4. With that said, If I had the money for a 4x4, I would have picked one up. I picked my 500tm up for 4100 out the door. I plan to buy a winch for those, just in case, times.
