Honda Rubicon/Rancher AT vs. Outlander 800/400, What should I buy?

Unfortunately honda is falling behind as far as performance. I like my 04 Rubicon but have had to spend alot of money to get it to do what most bikes do out the door. I went with honda for reliability mostly. So its a trade off on what you get verses what you need. If you look at my pictures the bike is maxed on suspension and tires. It is jetted and soon to be exhaust snorkeled. Ive lost alot of power due to the tires, but will be doing a big bore kit soon with a clutch kit also. I am looking to max this bike in every way possible and then head off to the mud nationals.
By the way guys........make sure the people you ride with follow all guide lines if you ride in state parks.....I live in north mississippi and one of our favorite places, Arklabutla lake is now closed due to poeple not wearing helmets and littering. All state parks are trying to slowly shut down atv riding. Lets all do what we can to help keep our trails open.
Ride hard and get muddy

I just watched a 1/2 "info-mercial" by Bombardier and they compared the new 800 to a POS 800 and a Kawi(?) 750 V-twin. The Bomb 800 was very impressive. The Bomb 800 two rider with two people on it was quicker in the 200 yard drag race than either the POS or Kawi.
It out pulled everyhting in the sled pull and out mudded the others too.
I am sure the Bomb 800 is a great ATV, but I don't drag race, mud, or pull sleds and hate belts so there is not the one for me.

hey being a honda fan, and a mechanic at a polaris and bombardier dealership i can tell you that if you get the 800 outlander for your first big bore quad you will kill yourself literally, it has so freakishly much power you ahve to really know what your doing to ride it, the 400 outlander is the best choice perhaps if your doing pure trail riding, it has alot of power for a 400 and very comfortable. But, if you are doing ne amount of work or places were you need to do slow grunt torque work like pulling stuff and men outa the wood the rubi is deff. the way to go by far. i drag raced my 04 rubicon and a 400 outlander and beat it, not by much but i did beat it. and the rubi really handle very well for the primarily utility designed machine that it is, i llove this machine and wouldn't take ne of the other models you mentioned over it and i work on and ride the bombs alot.
