05 450R GEARING
#1
I have had my 05 450r for about 2 months. It is the best quad i have owned, but I do have one complaint. First gear seems really high, and in the tight technical stuff where i ride, it seems to want to stall out. What can I do with the gearing to make it a little more "woods friendly"?

A smaller front sprocket would do the trick, as would a larger rear sprocket. This will lower your speed in all gears though so going too low will really hurt your top end. Try one tooth at a time on the front sprocket and see how you like it. I'm not sure how many teeth are on the front sprocket on the 450 but I would never run any less than 13 teeth, just my opinion.

I agree with trying dropping to a 13 on the front. At 8000 RPM, your max speed is 66.5 MPH with a 14 tooth front. With a 13, it will be 61.7 MPH.
