What The ?????? Rubicon using over 2 quarts of oil?????
#1
Well I just bought my 02 Rubicon this spring when it had 2400 miles and I was told when you change the oil only put in 3 quarts and run it alittle bit and then put in the other 2 1\4
Well I first changed my oil in July I had 2950 miles and I only got out 3 quarts and I thought what an idoit the guy who i bought it from only put in 3 and forgot to put in the rest of the oil
Welll Changed the oil for the second time this year yesterday and I knew something waswrong with the machine because last month i put in a whole quart of oil and when I changed it I just barely got 3 quarts out of it
I use the right oil from Honda 10w40 and always a honda filter and I've noticed on the rack it looks like someone had 2 U bolts on it for maybe there was a snokle perhaps?
The guy who had this machine bought it almost new and I was looking back into the Records of it
Changed all oils and filters complete serive miles 1614
Then right below it only 40 miles later he did another complete service??
why only 40 miles later?
He put on Steel ITP Rims and Titan 589 muds a Warn 2500 winch 2 inch lift K&N
Me thinks he got it into the water and did some damage
I know there is 2 drain plugs I pulled both
There is no oil in the air box
What do you guys think?
Ask me any question
I am thinking about selling this Rubicon to get rid of it
I Really like this machine after I took of the 2inch lift it rides great good power awesome trans
Why is it using over 2 quarts of oil between changes???
ANY help would be great
Thanks

i'll agree with you on how it sounds like the quads been sunk. 40 miles is an oil change, not a complete service. but just to be sure its not another problem, go over the engine and check for leaks, spray the motor down good with brakekleen or a good degreaser, and ride it for a day. park it over a piece of white posterboard. you may also find that propping the front, or the back up on some crates or jackstands will help you find a leak. also, is there any smoke at all???? blue would signal that its burning oil.

Havent noticed any smoke really
I havent seen any oil on the garage floor and its been parked in the same spot since I bought it
Will look it over more closely
one other thing I noticed my buddys 02 Rub which is even the same color but he bought it almost new and has just let his kids run around with it I drove it and it seemed like it had more power than mine
not much but alittle bit
But it had stock tires too so i dont know really if that makes a difference

the power could come from his having a different tire size. it could also be that you have engine damage. not trying to scare you though. just check the engine for any signs of leaks. its gotta be going somewhere. you may also want to get it out and ride it down the road, and at mid to top end speed at wide open throttle, glance back to see if you see any smoke at all. if you do, its a tell tell sign that you've got bad piston rings.

We have a likea 600 yard feild all nice and mowed I'll do it there
Be aweful funny going down the road at 50mph with those tires

This rubicon is really strange I dont know where the oil is going
no leaks not really smoking
Very odd

If it goes through that much oil that quickly, I wouldn't think you would have to look very hard to see smoke if it were burning it...
How many quarts did you get in to get it up to full (the time when you only got 3 out)? Where was the oil level on the dipstick before you changed it?
I've heard that you need to let a Rubi drain for quite a long time to get all the oil out of it... and that you need to let it sit for a while (but not so long that the engine isn't still hot) before checking the oil to get an accurate reading and avoid overfilling.
I guess I wouldn't jump to conclusions yet. The checking for leaks idea is a good one to start with, then if it were mine I'd do a leakdown check, then keep an eye on the oil level and see what happens...
Good luck with it.
