Need some help here Honda fans- We have a 2003 250Ex with very little use. Here is the symptons. The bike runs fine until you get it over three quarters throttle, then the engine just shuts down almost like a governor or rev limiter kicks in. The bike has had the values adjusted two weeks ago and ran fine until half way out on a run. I replaced the plug in case the plug was breaking down and disassembled the carb in case a jet was plugged. I have taken the throttle cover off and inspected, in case it was similiar to The Polaris system and it is not.I have checked electrial connection and sealed with di- lectic, still the same symptons. The bike seems more prone to this sympton in 2nd and 3rd gear. The bike will run fine under 3/4 throttle but over 3/4 it shuts down, it will power back up once you get under 3/4 throttle. Need help, bought the machine new. Gas is fresh and prefiltered.

 

Sounds like a blockage of some sort in the main circuit of the carb. I doubt it could be anything electrical, because the cdi doesnt know what throttle postion the quad has.

 

I would def check the carb nd drain it. Same thing happened to my frends 400ex nd that was the problem.

I dissasembled and cleaned the carb for the second time, tomorrow I'll reinstall and test. If it doesn't solve the problem off to the dealer it goes.

I tore the carb apart for the fourth time, reassembled and it worked fine, when the engine was cold. It acted up five or six times after that. Off to the dealer it went. Stay tuned for more exciting adventures.
