Not here, a Duncan 250R still mops the floor with everything out there. Last year an oem 450 didnt make the top 5, the only thing close are 250R's with highly modified 450 motorcycle engines, other 250R's and a zilla.

 

You guys misunderstood me, I hate to get rid of my R. If you look at my bio, I've had it for 5 years and have become attached to it setimentily. I just rebuilt it with my own two hands and take great pride in it. BUT...I am in college and can't afford to make these constant and costly repairs. For example, I took it for a 1/2 hour ride this weekend and it started leaking coolant. My neighbor who is a Honda mechanic took apart the water pump and found that I need a new water pump shaft and bearing = $150 with labor. I can't keep doing that. If it sells for the price I am asking, Ill sell it. If I can't get the amount I want, Ill keep it.

 

awww man that sucks for you, you got a sweet 250r there I find that the 05's look nicer then the 06's but its up to you have fun with your new toy when you get it

 

Wow, you are the first person I've heard make that comment. I respectfully disagree.

1Bad250R, It's only money, so go for it. When the new wears off and you've spent for shocks, exhaust, cam, etc. I'll bet you'll wish you had your 250R back. Good luck.

IF everything they fixed (gearing, front geometry, longer swingarm, more power, trans ratios, FCR carb etc), works well, then it might be a worthy deal. BUT if they did not fix the handling, coming from a 250R you will immediately notice a 'disconnection' btwn you and the bike. but 4 strokes are the future (and present) so i think you may be on the right path. however, consider this from someone that has both:

i like my 04 R and it handles good but not as good as the 250R, IMO. some elements are better on the 450 due to technological advances-like engine (very smooth, a slight hit and it will rip when you want it too), frame materials, shocks are great but not the rear one (really these andvances would have happned in the 90's if the quad market wouldnt have dried up) but the whole package isnt as balanced as the 250R was. plus a slightly modded 250R will rip. of course you know that.

the 250R was ahead of its time or right on time-depending on how you look at it and became the benchmark by which all others are judged by... it is the legend... until the cannondale or YFZ there was no worthy contender (give credit where it is due now, dont deny it- you all know the YFZ is a better 250R replacement) the 04/05 R was honda's answer just to have a product to kinda play cathup to the market and it will never have that legend status that the 250R earned for nearly 20yrs.
even though honda was developing it for years (they said) but at least in 06 they got more serious about it. the 06, if it is all it is cracked up to be, it should have been the bike they released in 04.

will i sell my 04? maybe oneday. but its almost paid for and it is a fun bike to ride, so im in no rush. if i want more power i'll contact athena or sparks and then get a little longer swingarm[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]
then for pure luxery sake i may check into the goki electric start kit b/c getting hondas will require alot of money b/c they really are NOT offering a kit but you can get the parts needed....

well since you put it up for sale, i think youve already decided and dont really need opinions. so do what you want..but if you can have the slightest, remote chance to keep that older R along with the newer R,
DO IT! you will be glad you did. by the way, some places wont let two strokes ride anymore, so having both- you have options and with a newer bike you can get an extended warranty for like 3 additional years. mine's warranteed until 2007.

 

I should buy your R and race you just so your R can see what you look like riding a 450 from the front
