Rincon/Rubicon dilemna
#1
I know that this topic has been talked to death, but I need help. I am buying in the next week, and am torn between the 2006 Rincon (IRS and fuel injection) and the 2006 Rubicon (low range and engine braking). Is the Rincon's lack of engine braking THAT bad? Which holds its value better? Which transmission is better? I primarily ride trails and creek beds, but I also need a machine that will haul a deer out of the woods and rock climb when asked.

The rincon is going to deffinitly give you a smoother ride but the rubicon will take you ne where the ricon will and the transmission is much better on the rubicon for ne low range grunt work than the rincon.

another thing is that i went with the ribicon and i'm the kinda guy thats like "you can never have to much power" well i dont regret not going with the extra 150 cc at all. the rubi is a beast and i'v beaten prairie 650s and grizzleys in drags up dunes, you won't be dissappointed at all with the rubicon.

rr101,
I just asked a rincon ? with a ruby comment in another honda post but I will ask you too. Assuming that you have seat time on the Rincon too, are you saying then that (Rin vs Ruby) that the Rin is the sporty choice for those that will basically be doing no work with their atv (other than maybe a snow plow of the driveway 5 times a year, which for mine I think a 300 would do because it is so flat).
I have heard that the ride on the Rincon is a lot smoother and the other 2 items I like are the new EFI and the existing IRS. That is why I am asking if it is strictly trail riding and sportiness then do you go with the '06 Rin over the Ruby?

I have a 01 Rubicon and love it wish it came with 2x4 or 4x4 button but ill have to get the 424. Can’t say anything bad about the ruby though, fun to ride and a great workhorse. Also no belts to worry about out in the boondocks

I love my rubicon, For me, the lack of a low range on the rincon has ruled it out

HI TRAILBLAZER;
I had a 03 Rubicon, extremely happy with it. Stayed away from Rincon, from what info I gathered from
riders and experienced atv friends.
I went and bought a Trail Edition, hoping to get a bit better ride. The ride is better with the adjustable
shocks , but not that noticeable. Only have 180 kms. on it, just got a call this a.m. and winched out a
buried and frozen 400 Polaris., the 2500 Warn winch, highly recomend.
The Rubicon was a good workhorse. I ride in extreme northern Manitoba, Canada rockridges and Muskeg
and it was awesome. Not 1 breakdown. Sold it immediately to a friend.
Hope this helps a bit, My 2 cents worth. If any other questions, just post them and I will pass any info
and experience I have.

Samee,
Is Trailblazer 700cc....I am assuming that is who you are speaking too (?)
Thanks for your input on the Ruby and Rincon, especially good since you don't have many posts and aren't "spoiled" by bad attitudes or just what is post here...so thank you!
Q1. If the Rubi was a great workhorse and you had no problems why did you sell it "immediately" to your friend?
Q2. Was that when you bought the trail edition model? (I'm not familiar with what the difference is between the Trail Edition & a regular 1)
Q3. Have you ridden a Rincon at all? Just curious......(I have not) If so, engine braking in your opinion, IRS on it vs the Ruby's SRA for pleasure riding not towing, overall speed & power?
Q4. I hear everything about the Ruby is great except that most get used to the power quickly since it is a 500cc and that the ride is just ok. What do you think about those 2 items?

HI TRAILBLAZER;
I will try and answer ea. question for you
Q. 1 Great workhorse, dependable, wanted to try a Trail Edition, because of the better
ride, new adjustable springs, still solid dependable axle.
Sold "Immediately" to a friend. My friend said some time earlier "If you get a new
quad, give me first chance at your Rubicon" So, I had a quick sell on the Rubicon, he
knew what it could do, and had been thru a real lot, and was still good shape.
Q. 2 The "Trail Edition" is the new Honda out this year. You may enjoy checking into it,
cost pretty well the same as a Rubicon. Has a GPS, which I really do not need, as I
have my own Garmin. But, it is not a option, it is standard equipment. I am confident
it will perform as well as the Rubicon. As it is a Honda. I have had 3 Hondas over the
last 20 yrs., and have been on rockridges, swamps and muskegs with them, and just
awesome performance. (Sound like a Salesman) Ha Ha. Also, I was hoping for a
more independant suspension. One trip we take is 16 miles, takes us 5 hrs. Quite
extreme, we have been told "Hondas should be tested on these trails, as it gives
every test going, high rock precambrian shield, muskegs with stumps, swamps and
a fast river to cross.
Q. 3 Honestly, only compared Rubicon, Trail Edition, matched specs. etc. and chose the
Trail Edition after I had a Rubicon. Great Engine braking going down steep Rock Ridges
on Rubicon and Trail Edition. The Rincon is a bit Sportier. A bit more power. Something
I will definitely say, is we have never needed more than 500cc. Power, with the torquing
and low range of the Rubicon, it is all you ever need.
Q. 4 AS above, 500 cc is the all around best engine. Good gas mileage. The Trail Edition
I presently have the option of switching from 2x4 to 2x4, helps on gas mileage. I
never checked if the Rincon had this option. Check it out. Ribicon great towing power.
We have pulled Quad trailers, with a Moose in it, or Equip. like 5 x 70 lb. of Oats for
bear bait sites.
TIP; Immediately had the rear 25" rear tires placed on front, and had 26" Kendra
Bear Claws placed on back.
Hope this helps in you making a selection. You are on the right trailing choosing a Honda.
My two riding friends, Hunters, Fisherman and Trappers also have Hondas.
