Honda domination...

Scroll down and have a look at the motorcycle and ATV divisions.
Pretty hard to argue with these results, wouldn't you say?

The 450 has been dominating desert racing for some time now (with an occasional DS Baja thrown in there now and then).
It says something extremely important about a machine when it is the weapon of choice for extreme endurance racing! And that is precisely why I ride a 450! I would be interested to know how many folks are going to change over to the new 06 motor, seeing the 04/05 motors have held up so well???
Will be interested to see if the new Suzuki 450 quad will make any kind of desert racer???
And, I would like to see how the CRF450X dirt bike would do (there was a CRF250 in there). And why Honda hasn't put the XR650 engine in a quad is a mystery that is beyond comprehension. That machine would rule the world!

LOL, I didnt think they even made the XR anymore, I thought it ended production in the late 90's. I had to go to Honda's website to check it out.

I can't believe a CRF250X made it! The 250f's are very unreliable, and being wide open riding, I wouldn't think you wouldn't want anything less than a 450.
I'd say the XR650 will be used for some time due to reliability and plenty of power. And I to am confused as to why Honda hasn't had a 650 sport quad. Especially since Honda seems to like the Baja Trophy's. Not that the 450R doesn't do a bad job at winning Baja.

You see tons of XR650's (affectionately known as "the big red pig") being ridden by recreational desert riders. "What wins on Sunday, sells on Monday". Even better if you have one that is licensed for dual-sport! My buddy trail rides his at Kennedy Meadows.........now that's taking on a challenge.
The venerable old XR400 was only discontinued last year, and there are a zillion of them around. From what I can tell, the CRF250X/450X are going to be wildly popular as well.

I'll have to look again, but the Pastrana Suzuki 450 was in the "unoficial" results, but I didn't see it in the "official" results. Did they get disqualified or something???

I don't know what happened to Pastrana.
The big thing holding back the 250X/450X's, is their reliability. They perform great, but they just don't last long. For the average rider the XR400 is still the way to go IMO.
I know my CRF450R is going to be strictly a track bike, I don't want to put the extra hours on it from trail riding do to these reliability issues. If you drop a valve your looking at some big bucks in repairs.
