Default k&n vs. uni

Filter in a factory airbox with the factory intake, a K&N will work fine AS LONG AS ITS MAINTAINED PROPERLY. As an open element or cut box like alot of sportbike guys have, use a Foam filter.

If you drag race u want to go with a K&N. U can't get anymore air drag racing then with the K&N. My opinion is the K&N is the best. I ride in sandy conditions with no air box just a K&N and i clean it about every month. When i take it off there is no dirt or any kind of substance left in the boot, just clean as can be. I would never go with a UNI i would lose a great amout of power. Plus all i do is sand drag

Despite all of the people preaching the horror of K&N (many of them never running them personally) I have never had any problems. I've had a K&N on every mx bike and atv I've owned for the last decade or two with no complaints. Dirty, wet trail rides, sand, dust, etc all stays out of the engine. We used to use nylons to cover the filters, but outerwears/prechargers work better now that they're around. A K&N in seriously dusty conditions with no airbox and no outerwear will allow some fine dust through, but from what I've seen there is still a hint of dirt in the uni filters running the same setup and conditions.

What are prechargers? How about grass riding?

K&N's name for an outerwear.

Grass doesnt kick up much, usually large dirt particles. It's the tiny stuff that rises as fine dust and coats your quad and turns your face black that you need to be concerned about.

Look at a K&N. What do you have between all that dust and your precious engine? A little thin piece of cotton gause! Does that make you sleep better at night????

Look at a foam filter. It is thick and if somthing gets by the surface, it is going to get caught further down inside the filter. That K&N is one-dimensional, if it gets by that thin little gause, what's there to back it up.......absoultely nothing!

And come on now, an Outerwears isn't going to make that much difference. All the Outerwears will catch is the really coarse stuff, and the fine stuff is what gets through. And think about it, how great do you think that K&N is going to be at catching that real fine stuff that gets by the Outerwears???

I do run an EHS Racing airbox lid (with Outerwears), but I'm not counting on that Outerwears to work miracles.

Be sure your foam filter is properly oiled, and use a great filter oil like Maxima FFT.
