I have the highlifter skid plates on my 1996 400
and I think it works great but it was a little bit
pricey. check around someone makes a plastic one for a lot less.
As far as the one I have goes it is great in the mud and rocks you just slide right over things and don't get hung up at all. After having one I would not be without it it offers great undercarrage protection. I also installed a set of Ox-Lite CV protectors these things are bulletproof if you bend one you are in serious trouble.
Good luck
Glen

I have purchased skid plates from PRM. Their skid plates are .250 thick where other brands are .190 thick.

The PRM are good quality units. Here is there correct web site. www.prm-atv.com. I don't know if they make skid plates for the 400 4x4 but check them out.

I have PRM's for my 450ES.Great investment for added peace of mind.Mine have taken a serious beating on rocks/stumps etc. Would have wreaked havok on my undercarriage for sure without. I have the full chassis skid and the rear swingarm skid which too can take a pretty good beating. Not too many people use the latter but I'm glad I have it.Also have a bash plate from them to replace the "beercan like" stock one I had upfront..
I know DG makes a full/rear diff skid plate for the 400.I've seen them and they are really heavy duty as well but look like they may be a bit of a hastle to install.Especially the full length plate. Prices vary on the DG products from retailer to retailer.Look around. If PRM makes a set for the 400, I'd go with them as their prices are probably the best. Heard good things about the Mair plastic plates but haven't any experience with them directly.

Good luck!
