I got a 36mm keihen pj carb for my '86 trx250r and i was wondering if anyone knew a good starting point for the jetting. ie; what pilot and main to run and i need to know what needle to run to. For mods i have a fatty pipe and a rad valve.
thanks,
steve

If you have a stock air box with stock filter, the stock main jet for a 86 R is .150. If you want to start there, this could be a good place. Go up 1-2 sizes for each mod; pipe, go up, opened-up air box, go up, etc. So, now, if you have a pipe, reeds, start around a .155. You can keep going up until it just "blubbers" on the top-end and then step down one at a time until it stops.
Start with the needle in the center or notch #3. Make sure your throttle cable is adjusted to let you have full use of the carb. Make sure your air filter is clean and you start with a new plug. I prefer the B8ES or the B9ES. Good luck and have fun!
