Is my stator bad??
#1
First I must admit that I'm not that mechanicly
inclined when it comes to electrical components.
My problem is no spark on my 86 trx250r. I'm using a new plug to test this. I don't have a maintenance book for my bike so I'm kinda lost. A somewhat reputable mechanic said to test my stator by checking resistance on the red/black wire on the stator said to ground. Resistance should fall between 50-250 ohms. I've checked this and read 0
ohms. The coil has been checked and determined to be good. If the stator is good what is the way to test the CDI without replacing it? Am I evn doing this right or heading in the wrong direction? Any
help will be greatly appreciated.

Baad 250r,
I am by no means a expert but I do own a 250R
and have worked on this type of trouble before.
Your right , the stator should test between 50
and 250 across black/red wire and the green.Have
you checked the ignition switch and the kill switch?check the connections at the cdi for
corosion. Also when you are checking for spark
with the plug against the cylinder you must
briskly kick the engine over for it to generate
spark. As for cdi unit if you a friend that has
a 250r try swapping this around to trouble shoot
without buying this part. The only thing the shop
manual says about the cdi is to disconnect 2p and
4p connectors and check for loose or coroded terminals.Hope this helps.
