Bar height on 450r
#1
Just got to ride a 2006 450r and I have to say Honda has built a rocket . I have always owned 89 250rs and I still have high regard for those quads but I am ready to jump from 2 stroke to 4stroke. That being said the one thing I did find much different from the 250R 's was the bar height. Whats the best way to change this , taller steering stem or taller bars and still keep the key switch.

I would go +1 on the stem and get an antivibe stem with medium compound bushings if you have a choice. I know my Burgard bushings are softer than some of the others I have seen. You can still go with taller bars too.
Keeping the key switch is the tricky part. Not many companies are doing anything with this. I keep waiting for someone to make a generic plate that would allow you to mount it with the steering stem bolts. Any average person could drill the required holes. Note that the 2006 has the key switch plus 2 lights whereas the 2004/2005 only had the one extra light.

Interesting, because I LOWERED my bars and love it. I went with the TAG mount and bulge bars. It has a sweet little plate that holds the light and vent hose. Anyway, they have lots of bar options, so maybe you could find a high one. Give them a call.
