Heres the deal. My bother has a 250. Buy an HMF. Everybody likes them and I do too. Look around for deals and get a nice one cheap. I got my 300ex pipe new for 216, with jets silent core and spark arrester. (Thats 270 dollars of parts.) Stock HP of a 250ex is about 15-17, and I imagine you'd get about 2.5-3.5 on top of that with the pipe, decent jetting and a decent intake. (about another 25 bucks.) A rev box allows the engine to rev higher than the original ignition system does, usually another 1000 rpm. In my opinion this is bad. Sure you get more power on the top, but its not worth the engine life. Alot of people say that it doesnt make a difference and those engines are meant for that. The question I ask is why does honda limit the rpms to the level that they do? Do you suppose its for RELIABILITY? It doesnt take a genius to fgure out that the more or the faster parts move, more wear will occur. You'd be hard pressed to beat a 300 with the same mods, but you might be able to hold even with a stocker 300, or even a 300 with a pipe and no rev box. The piped 300 would get you off the line, but then youd either gain or hold even because you rev higher. In my opinion that bike needs shocks before anything else. It lands like a go-kart. Even converting to used 300ex or 400ex shocks would be good. (adjustable and more cushy-dampeney)
