Default Cold Blooded Recon.

I just got a new Recon for my son. The bike seems to be hard to get warmed up. After 10 minutes or so, it seems fine. I heard you can up the main jet a size or two?? My Foreman is not nearly as cold blooded and thats a motor twice the size of the Recon. Any suggestions??? Thanks.

I dont own a recon but all of my honda thumpers are cold blooded. The 75 and the 600 seem to be the worst, but the mini trail and the 200 arent much better. All need at least 5 minutes warm up or will cough and die.

My 2005 Recon is exactly the same way. You have to find the 'sweet spot' on the choke or it struggles to stay running. My 2005 Rancher fires right up, even with no choke. I think its just the nature of the beast. I know this doesn't help you rectify the problem, I just wanted to reassure you that its normal and nothing is wrong.

My Rancher warms up and idles fine if you use the choke in cold weather but my son's 06 TRX90 is a cold blooded unit.
You also have to find the right spot on the choke or it will sputter and die. I have to let it idle for at least 5 minutes if the temp is below 55 before it will pull away without choking it down.

another thing to add is the new ranchers have heated carburetors also, some of the smaller bikes dont.

there have been several post on this subject the one on my daughters was the same way new i changed the main jet to a 105 stock is 95 if my memory is correct and played with idle speed and mixture screw on carb it does not need any choke to start unless it is in the 30's outside it is still on original spark plug and does not run rich this is a tough little bike it has since been rolled and abused and abused and abused good luck

I put about 2oz. of Klotz fuel booster in the tank. I use this in all my bikes. It serves as a fuel stabilizer and octane booster. I also bumped up the idle speed just a notch. It seems to run much better. If I continue to have problems, I read the thread on the re-jetting. I might give that a try. Thanks for all the input. -Joe.
