I have both. The Z is pretty fast, but no where near the R. The Z handles great, and the R handles even better.

No doubt his R was bone stock (all corked up), and he missed a shift or something????

He doesn't know how to shift. It's amazing what a difference there is when you nail the shifts perfect. My dad and I have identical 450s. We took them to the pavement one day and raced from first gear rolls and 3 times in a row I'd kill him by a couple lenths. He thought something was wrong but I asked him how he was shifting. Anyway, I said to wait for the rev limiter and then shift. Soon you will get used to how high the rpm should be and you'll be right there. Sure enough within the next race he lost by half a length. Then once he got it down, they were wheel to wheel. You can't short shift a 450. My 400 has a more broad power band and is more forgiving on the shifts. My brother has an '03 z400 with a k&n and pipe and can get me out of the hole but it's all over at the top of first/bottom of second gear.

Is there a weight difference? If so, how much?
