300ex electric start... any gear ?
#1
I remember seeing a post on starting a Honda quad in any gear. You must be in Neutral to start the 300ex. I was wondering if it can be wired around that saftey feature. I may and may not do it. I already run it with NO key. I may add that back. It got all busted up in a crash !! I am not great with the wiring diagrams, so please help me out !!

There are two wires that run into the clutch on the 300EX (and the 400EX for that matter). If you pull the wires out of the clutch perch and wire them together, you can start in any gear without pulling in the clutch. Of course, starting your ride in gear with the clutch out can't be good for your starter.

Exer 95, Don't pay any attention to these guys who think that we should figure out things as easily as them. I have a '95 300ex also. This spring the little switch in my clutch went bad. I think this is probably your problem. Slowly pull back on the clutch. If you do not hear a "click" it is froze. You can either try to take out the little switch and clean it or, you can take the two wires that go into it and wire them together. You can find the switch on the clutch handle on the right side of the handle. If you do this you won't have to pull in the clutch and you will be able to start in any gear, except reverse. Just be careful because if you hit the start button while it is running it will be like turning the key in a running car.
