Honda 250X no spark. Bad coil?
#1
I trailered 2 Atv's to go riding this weekend and my 1992 Honda 250X wouldn't fire. I pulled plug and no spark. Tried new plug and no spark again. Could this be the coil or something else? Anybody have any ideas. It ruined the whole riding trip.... isn't that Murphy's Law. This bike hasn't had a problem since I bought it and it waits until I take a nice trip to fail on me. I won't have another chance to go riding now for months! I'm sure everbody has had something like this happen at some point.
Thanks for any help.

CHECK AND SEE IF ALL YOUR IGNITION, AND COIL WIRES ARE ALL CONNECTED OR YOU MIGHT HAVE A BAD GROUND OR HOT WIRE CONNECTION, ALSO CHECK FOR CORROSION TO. IF EVERYTHING LOOKS GOOD IT COULD BE THAT THE MAGNETO POINTS ARE NOT AJUSTED THAT WELL. BUT YOU SAID THAT RAN BEFORE YOU TRIP, SO CHECK ALL THE COIL WIRES FIRST, IF THAT DONT WORK THE COIL IS BAD

They stopped using points for ignition systems around 1980. Like the last post said, could be CDI. It could also be triggger coil, a wire, a conection, or kill switch along w/ the coil itself, coil wire, or spark plug boot. Get ahold of a meter and a service manual (OEM is best) to troubleshoot.

Thanks for the advice. I probably should buy a manual, I have one for every other car and bike I have. I tried to fire the 250X last weekend and it appeared to run fine, so I have a intermitent problem I quess. I also bought a used coil and wire on ebay, but haven't installed it yet. I'd hate to get out on a long ride and have it cut out on me. I better get a meter and manual.
Thanks,
Keith
