Honda or Yamaha

Good choice I love honda, they did just not fufill my need for a v-twin. I LOVE the v-twin sound, and so far kawi's front diff/diff locker is a really well thought out piece of technology. So when it came time to buy a quad the rincon just wasnt enough.

Most dealers are nice, before you buy the machine man. They want to make a sale duhhh. It's after you buy the wheeler that a true dealers side comes to the front. Personally I have had good luck with my dealer all though I didn't get a winch with my machine purchese. But other than that they have been really accomendating. Like I got a set of ITP c series 5 wheels with 26-10-12 front and 26-12-12 rears for 450 bucks. They sell for 660 in the books, but since I didn't get a winch they hooked me up. So if you have bought a machine there before than you would know, but if not then ask around and see if people have had good luck with them. Hondas just tend to be more reliable in my experince, and I've ridden for 12 years.

I have both. For long rides 50+ miles the Rubicon is a lot more comfortable. It is stronger, faster and can be used more as a little tractor/utility than the Yamaha. The Kodiak is a lot nimbler, quicker and in my opinion more capable off-road. Construction in my opinion is similar with the Honda having better quality in certain areas like the plastic, seat construction and a lot brightervlights. The size of the Yamaha is a tad smaller.
My Rubicon is a 2001 and has 1,500 miles on it and had no problems but saying that, I am a little concerned if the automatic has a problem it would be a very expensive proposition to repair.
There is less engine vibration from the Honda. The Yamaha starts right away but is cold blooded, the Honda is harder to start but does not need any warming up. I understand they changed the carb on the new Rubicon this year so that might have changed. The low range of the Honda is a lot lower so it will pull heavier loads easier and also go down steep hills without ever touching the brakes. Sometimes it is too low.
You might like the smaller size of the Yamaha. Also make sure you like the rear independent suspension on the Yamaha, might be too soft for utility work but excellent for rock crawling.
It is a toss I would buy the better deal $$$$ after you have test drove both.
Good Luck
