yeah, just about all the new bikes are like that. I had to adjust my idle on my rancher too. That's why they give you the handy turny-**** thing on the idle speed adjuster. I use it to put my quad on 'fast idle' when i start it cold so it stays running. Then after it's warmed up and driven for a few miles i'll turn it back down.
Dennis kirk and jr-graham sell what's called a Tiny Tach/ Hour meter thing, really easy to hook up and doesnt tap into any wires.. Just has a wire you wrap around the spark plug wire that picks up the magnetic field around the plug wire to determine engine rpm...It doesn update too fast, but I put one on my rancher so i can keep track of my maintenance, and watch the engine rpm...it will do 7500 RPM wide open. pretty fast for a push-rod engine!!
