well the 450r for 06 is a bad **** stock but if you add hrc kit i hear its faster then last years with a 470 big bore but 250 r you can do a big bore on and youd probably be able to run with them i guess if the price is right the price is right

do a search! this same question was asked recently. you will get varying opinions here.

i'll give you my opinion since i own both. honestly, i think the 250R still holds it own. i like my 450R but overall, i prefer the 250R's handling manners. why? b/c it's lighter, has a lower center of gravity, handles better, is better balanced and, though slightly narrower (by maybe an inch, but has longer wheelbase)- it feels more stable at high speeds, IMO.

the 450s have come along way for the 4stroke world. i havent owned a 4stroke since awhile back before i went 2stroke. for fourstrokes, the YFZ and 450Rs are impresive and will likely beat a stock 250R in sheer draggin and lap times. but mod that 250R a little in the engine dept and suspension (get some elkas) and you will stay with them. remember power to weight ratio. 250r is inherently lighter and stock makes about 29hp at the wheels. add a pipe, carb, reed cage, air filter and now your getting at or in the 40's. a big difference and right there in 450 territory.

BUT, the 450s are the new racing breed, replacing the 250 class of yesteryear. 450s are here to stay, they get better every year. the shocks are better, frames are better and have aluminum, removable sub frames, engines are getting more powerful...its great. i love to see the market alive again and improving with new bikes.
