Depends, which one is in better condition. I would probably just go for the 450R...

Being a former 250R owner I would have to say steer clear of the 250 unless you have a good sized wallet and don't mind wrenching....I had fairly good luck with my R but still had alot of minor problems with it...seems like something is always going unless you spend big $$ and FULLY restore it...the 450 will no doubt be more reliable then the aging 250. If I were to buy another quad I would go with the 450r...

i gotta defend the 250 a little here: my 250R is 20yrs old, im the 3rd owner, it been rebuilt only once, still schools some of these newer quads, has great compression/power and i only work on it when i want to. its a very reliable quad. in 1988, it was rated THE best used atv out there and that its engine was virtually "bulletproof." but there are bad, abused ones. mine is stil in excellent condition, no bearing trouble, every thing is still tight. as far as handling, i still think its a better handling bike than the 450R.

however, in this comparison with the 250r being that modded and probably that abused, spend the other 1K for the 450R. i have one of them too. in over 2yrs- no problems whatsoever -but change your oil frequently as the manual suggests.
