I was trying to tighten the chain on my 2001 400ex, and in the manual it says to loosened the axle carrier nuts, and spin the tightner wheel to tighten the chain. I got all the carrier nuts loose, but couldn't get the wheel to spin, and even bent the allen wrence tryingto use it for leverage.

 

I don't know what could be wrong, maybe you didn't loosen the bolts enough. It should be fairly easy.

 

Take a hammer and lightly but sharply tap around the bearing housing. This will should loosen the adjuster. Do not swing hammer as if you were driving 16 penny nail for you might damage the housing.

A Shock adjuster wrench works better than that short stubby allen wrench.

 

Being brand new it should turn easily with all 4 of the allen bolts loose. When I recently did mine you could almost spin it with your fingers... Are you sure that all 4 clamping bolts where loose enough?

No, I had was in Neutral, but I did finally get it today, I had to take the axle carrier nuts completely out before the wheel would move, and then I turned it with a extra long allen wrench.
