300ex Cams and big bore
#1
I am looking for an aftermarket cam for a 300ex. Does any one know of a factory or a web site that has them. i searched google but could not find any hot cams or anything for it really. Also does any one know of any good big bore kits for the 300ex?

Has anyone ever seen the add in dirtwheels for one of those scary fast kits. There like 350 dollars, and you get a oversized 330 piston, cam, and rev box. Sounds like a good buy to me. All you need then is a good full system pipe. I would look at planet honda and get some 400ex a-arms. There only like 65. bucks a piece and you get like +2 1/2" wider front end, for the extra power, you would also need longer tie rods, and if you want some 400 ex shocks. Totally changes the way those little things handle. Its almost like riding a 400ex but alot nimbler, and with the right mods a little quicker. Ive seen one 330ex than ran with my stock z 400 all day. He was running like 15/34 sprockets i think, and we were about the same on top end, but i could get there just a tad quicker, i was very impressed with it. He would only tell me it was a 330, plus by the way it was running i would say he had a cam, and i saw the dg pipe he was running. That was one of the funnest bikes i have ever rode. Well look in some mags, you cam always find aftermarket stuff in ther for good prices. Peace.

If you get a cam that will really wake up the 300 you'll also have to get harden rockers, and different valve springs. The rockers and springs will run you around +/-200. (more plus than anything) Most big time 4 stoke builders advise in opening up the top end with some good porting and bigger valves. (also opens up your wallet!) If you look at the cheaper stroker kits, they advise not using high compression or turning higher RPM's because the rod can't handle it. Good rods aren't cheap either.
The only reason I've mentioned all of this, is, to build one right its going to cost alot of money. IMO, the drop in cams from web are not worth the money for the little power you gain. Unless your building it for a specific class to race in, it really is hard to justify. Built blasters will still out run you, and 400's are getting to the point of being cheap to buy and build. I would (and have) decided to quit where I am with our 300, and save the money to put towards a 400 in the future. JMO!!!
