It was sooty. I wouldn't call it oily.

It sure seemed to me it was running rich, but that makes no sense to me...

When you change exhust and air filter you should go up in main jet size, at least one or two for your mods. On my wife's old 300, with a Supertrapp and a K&N, I went up three. Ran great and never had a plug problem.

Try going up two jet sizes & then check your plug. If still black go up one more if needed.

You might have to repeat this process if you install a high flow air filter such as uni or K&N.

but thought it would run lean not rich..

isn't black too much gas, and white too much air?

94DGblaster-

Did you jet like we talked about last week (go up on mains until it skips, then drop down one)? You didn't alter the needle position yet, have you?

Black soot represents a rich mixture. What main jet size do you have in now, and what main jet did you take out of the machine (stock jet).

Remember, make your modifications first (number of disks in pipe) - then jet to that. Don't adjust these variables (number of disks) while you jet, it just adds more complexity.

yeah..

well i went to a 230(thats what the dealer told me to get) now it runs lean still with 8 disk.

So i am going to go up to a 240..

The plug was fouled before i put the pipe on a believe..

i noticed it missing sometimes..when i was riding.

bad jetting and a bad plug really added.

So i gotta go up..

it actually runs great as it is..but the plug is buring a little white..
