Default Need some help with computer and digital camera

I need some help with making my digital camera download pics to my pc. Here is the deal. I have a Dell inspiron B130 laptop (os-Windows XP) and a HP desktop (os-Windows ME) at wife's stop. My digital cam is a Sony Mavica FD100.

Both computers required me to install the driver for the USB connection from the disk that came with the camera.

When I use the USB cord and plug the cam into the Dell it opens the camera and scanner wizard and lets me load the pics into a folder of my choice.

When I use the USB cord and plug the cam in the the HP desktop the only thing is does is give me the little icon in the system tray telling me to click it when I am ready to unhook the USB cable. It will not open anything that will let me load the pics.

I have gone into control panel and went to camera and scanners and clicked on add a new device and that won't work either. Sony is not listed as a choice and when I click I have a disk and install the disk it tells me the disk has no info for the camera.

Why wont the camera work on the HP with WinME but works great with WinXP???? I am stumped..

I don't think ME has the same kind of wizard.

You should be able to copy the photos manaually.

Hook the camera's USB cable up and once the computer has recognized it, open "My Computer", it should show the camera as a removeable device. If you open the Removeable Device, you will find your photos, likely nested in a folder or two.

Just use Copy & Paste, or drag and drop the photos from there to the folder of your choice.

Take it from someone who makes a living in this field...Windows ME is a big fat VIRUS. I won't even work on a system that has it installed even if it is a family member. My advice is to upgrade to XP or follow the advice already given of manually transferring the pictures to it.

Thanks for all the tips guys!!!!! I am going to try Sony's web site and see if I can find anything. When the cam is connected to the usb port it does not show up as another drive! I don't get it. All my other pc's either open it or show it as E drive or something similar. I have come to the conclusion that ME is a piece of *&^%$!!!!
