Question for Rubicon Owners........
Rubicon owners and riders, have any of you ever tried using automotive lubricants in your Rubicons? I'm specifically talking about using Mobil 1 oil in my Rubicon instead of using the $10 a quart Motorcycle Mobil 1. In reading numerous websites that have conducted tests on these oils, none of them have found any scientific evidence that their Motorcycle Oil has any benefit over the standard Mobil 1 automobile oil. I just wanted to make sure that no harm will come to my Rubicon by running automotive synthetic Mobil 1 Oil. Any and all information on this topic will be greatly appreciated!

Question for Rubicon Owners........
GN4 and change it often. Takes the guess work out of it. I doubt anyone on this board knows the Hondamatic well enough to know if there are components (plastic, elastomers, etc) in there that have an adverse reaction to any other oil. (if someone does, please explain the 1 to 1 lock up) Plus you have a cetrifugal friction clutch that doesn't like friction modifiers.

Question for Rubicon Owners........
Well guys, Thanks for all the input! After further research, I decided to bite the bullet and invest in Mobil 1 for motorcycles, the MX4T stuff luckily found at Auto Zone at $6.99 a quart which I thought was a fantastic price until the clerk thought it looked under priced and checked it out and sure enough, it was miss priced and was suppose to be $7.99, which is still cheaper than anywhere you look on the internet, including Amazon.com. The way I look at it is this, I could take the gamble and use plain automotive Mobil 1 and probably not have any problems what so ever but for an additional 45%, why gamble, so I went with the correct stuff. I'm a huge fan of Mobil 1 lubricants. I've been running them in my automobiles for over ten years and recently sold a Saab 9000 Turbo that I owned for 4 years and had run the meter up to 193,600 miles. I just got tired of driving that car and actually sold it for over $9500.00 and the guy I sold it to was thrilled when he had learned that I religiously used Mobil 1. The guy was a serious Saab fanatic and because of this, after owning the car for about a month, he decided he liked it so much that he was going to do an unneeded rebuild on the motor. He called me after he had the motor out and torn down and reported that even with 193K on the pistons and bearings, he said you could still see the cross hatch marks in the bores and estimated the main bearings were about 50% worn out. I attribute this to two reasons, first the car was an original Saab, manufactured the year before GM purchased the company and loaded the lineup with numerous Saturn parts. Saab had always been known for having superior metals in their cars and fighter jets. Second reason I attribute the extremely low wear signs is the car was kept lubricated with Mobil 1 and it never went past 3000 miles before it saw new oil. My point is this, the Rubicon is not your average ATV. I bought the quad because in my opinion, the machine has the best transmission in the industry and the motor isn't that bad either. A motor/trans combination like this deserves the best oil in the industry and that's why I went with the Mobil 1. I don't want to sound like I'm preaching and for all I know, Mobil 1 may not be that much better than other fully synthetic motorcycle oils but what I do know is that it performs incredibly well in my automobiles and I want my quad to last as long as possible and run strong. I use the quad for plowing snow and believe me when I tell you that some of the snow loads I've plowed really put motor oils to the test and I want the best. When I first started this thread, I wasn't sure if it was safe to run automotive Mobil 1 in my quad. After further thought and reading numerous opinions on the topic, it's not worth the risk so I went with the motorcycle oil.
