04 Rancher 400 AT problems
#1
My 2004 Rancher hesitates, pops and spits out the carb. It idles fine but when I hold the throttle at 1/4 to 1/2 open it is misfiring the when I accelerate it pops out of the carb. I have taken the carb off and cleaned it out, put it back on and the same thing. Seems like it is way too lean, like a lean miss or a coil malfunction. Any ideas? I have a manual on order but in the mean time does anyone know how to adjust the Valves. Looks like the rocker shafts & rockers are part of the valve cover assy.

When you cleaned the carb, did you remove all the jets to see if they were clear and blow thru all passages in the carb? Inspect the slide diaphram for pin holes or a pinched outer lip -- If this were bad it shouldn't pop like you describe but it won't allow you to accelerate past 15 or 20 mph, may be worth checking though. Look for an air leak around all the intake boots and tubes, an air leak will cause the symptoms you have.

Thanks for all the inputs. I did blow out the carb through all the passages and I had checked for water in the fuel......thought maybe it was a spark plug misfiring..........In the end it was the ignition coil breaking down.......runs like a dream now.

I will have to check mine out. My AT misses every now and then. Only when I am really getting on the throttle. I had a jet kit and pipe installed over Christmas and have not rode it alot since. I just thought the carb wasn't adjusted properly. Thanks for the info.
