Default 450r 2005 upgrade... to get close to the 2006 ?

I have a 450r 2005 HRC. Yesterday I tried a 2006 HRC and can't beleive how different it is on the rev speed and the power delivered... wow!!!! Awsome machine the 450r 2006!!!! WHOOOOOOOOO!!!!! A lot of fun... but, I have a 2005...

So, I won't invest on a new one this year and I like the fiability of my machine. Is there another upgrade suggested to get a little more attack on the 2005 ?

I was thinking to the headers and tune, next the rev chip but not convinced cause rev higher = problems maybe... I'm not shure.

Well, does it worth it for the 2005 ? I know it wont get over the 2006 (with my 2005) but the 2005 is missing a little bit of attack I think.

Thanks folks!!!!

Default 450r 2005 upgrade... to get close to the 2006 ?

OK... so finally I got a Full Line Big Gun RACE SERIE exhaust system, a K&N filter + pre-charger and a rev-box (3 curves, DFC ? DNF ? don't remember sorry).

Should have a difference I think.

I still don't know if the motor will keep working good. It's now at 80 hours of life. Do someone knows when it should be checked ?

Thanks!

hate to tell you man, but every 30 hours of riding it is recomended to replace the piston and rings. to mod out a 05 to keep up with a 06, you should just buy a 06 by the time you put all the money into it you would have one bad 06. theres no contest between them

i havent seen, "replace piston and rings every 30 hrs," in the manual... especially on the 04/05 models.

ive had mine for over 2yrs and no problems. i know several others with many many more hours than me with the same scenerio... however, if you are a racer- you would want a fresh engine all the time and def put more wear and tear on things (Doug Gust had his engine replaced every race on the yoshi z400 he used to ride), but the normal rider should not have to do this. That is why honda initially changed the engine from the CRF in the 04/05 models. the 06 may be a dif story- i dont have a manual for that bike but cant imagine them saying that but can imagine them having more frequent oil change intervals.

but yeah, an 04/05 R WITH HRC kit is NO match for a stock 06 R...let alone an 06 WITH HRC kit. its ***** to the wall.

for your dilema of wanting to chase down a 06 R with your current R, look at the athena 480 kit and maybe a different cam than the hrc one. maybe some good porting , pipe, etc too. other than that, the only thing you can do is displacement, higher comp piston, etc. or buy a new YFZ - i still have yet to see a 450R modded walk away from a modded YFZ. maybe in your neck of the woods this may not happen, but the YFZs around here own the Rs in draggin.

Well my goal is not to own a drag against a YZF or a HRC 2006... simply to get more cause trying a 2006 changed the way I feal my 2005.

So, $$$ talking, I would be winner to put few $ on my 2005 compared to sell it and get a new 2006 HRC (With the fact that I payed my 2005 fully cash, no financment or...). I know I wont get close to it but I can tell you that personnaly a drag is a $$$ race. I'm not this kind of guy... I have friends that have 400ex and nobody can't do what they do with it and a drag is nothing compared to those jumps and hills climb etc.

Well I just want few more attack and I will give you some news about my new modifications... I would say, those who presently have those bombs (2006 HRC), you will be overpassed in the next years with the news models with fuel injections from Suz, Yam, and for shure I think Honda will follow they won't have the choice. Depends why you have your machine!? To get in front ? You need $$$ and a good thumb. To be good ? You need practice and attitude...

For the piston change... I'm the kind of guy who runs once a week, 1.5 hours (on the time counter) splitted sessions over an afternoon. Changing my oil every 10 hours, always honda... Think I could do this summer with the same piston then change it at the end of the season would be good. With a new compression ratio ? Will it need other modification if I change the ratio ?

Well... I'm not telling the truth but that's my fealing about it.

See ya atv riders!

Put in a high compression piston, get a FCR carb and you will be a lot closer to the 06. I would prefere to have an 05. It has a better front end, kick start, and the exhuast mounts better.

Well... hahahah in fact yes my friend is jealous of my kickStart!!!! And he hates his electric starter...

When you say "a lot closer" do you mean compared to what I added (pipe, tune, rev box, air kit) ? Or next I should ad the FCR carb and the compression piston then I will get close to it ?

Ok... so those are my comments about my new setup!

WOw... I almost got the HRC 2006 he was few feet faster and I missed a bit on the 4th gear!!! I realy appreciate my new machine now... Not the same power curve comparded to the 2006 and my 2005 is now powerfull like I want. It mean higher RPM, more power, rev curve lifting faster, more torque in the mid-high, less bottom torque... It's like moving the mid torque to the mid-high rev.

For those who would like to try upgrading theyre HRC 2005 it realy worth it!!!

I'm shure you are right...

The worst thing is that on the 58 Honda TRX450R my friend sold last years at his ATV shop, I saw the second one that blowed on the crank shaft... ugly... but the guy was not changing the oil often. He need to learn.

OK I noted a change... the idle is less stable... starting it up is harder. It's going up and down on 1500 rpm and 2000. Sometimes it is simply dying and I need few kickstart session. Is that a air screw adjustment needed ? (But when pushing the gaz on, it works perfectly!)

Another question, should I start to change my oil more often since my modification of the rpm top ? I'm doing it every 10 hours and now I could go to 7 hours ?

Well, just give me your advice it could help me keeping it up longer!

Thanks!
