Default LTR 450 v.s. 06 450R

I have a 2006 yfz 450, engine mods include, pipe, jet kit, gytr filter, ehs racing lid. My best friend has a 2006 Honda 450r, his is all stock with no mods except the spark arrester removed, we have ridden a lot together and my yfz is a little quicker and a little faster, but not by as much as I would have thought, we have ridden and raced on every surface. He has ordered an exhaust, jet kit and will drop the lid, to be honest im a little worried ! It is going to be very close IMO, I have ridden the 450R and its nice but I feel much more comfy on my yfz. I think the 450r kinda has a Raptor feel to it, it feels much taller like your sitting way higher. You cant go wrong with either of these bikes, I really dont know what one is better but....I have had no problems at all and he has a few like, rear grab bar broke off when he was using his foot on it, his parking brake does not work anymore, and the engine has a wierd knock. The 450R only has about 20 hours on it. I will say this, I would buy the Honda 450R before I would buy any other bike except the yfz. All in all, they are both very even, probably mods and riding skill will make the difference .

well i used to think the trx would out run the ltr in everything except the track but i went drag racein this weekend with my bone stock 07 LTR and beat a 450 r with a full pipe air filter jets and a lowerin kit and i was pulling lenghts on it the whole time down the drag strip then i raced to stock 450 r's and did that same thing to them juss worse then i went up against a 700 raptor a kfx 700 a 660 raptor two 500 predators the 3 450 r's a 400 EX with pipe air filter and jets and a dvx 400 and this was with almost bald tires but i have my baffel out of my pipe and my lid offa my air box but i was racein other fourwheelers that had alot more than what i had and should of beat me but i got them all i did get beat by a 660 raptor bored to a 727 with a 13:1 piston stage 2 webcams jetted double its stock size and ran of racein fuel with a pipe and air filter with a squated suspension and a yfz 450 with a pipe air filter stage 1 cams and jetted and a 350 banshee that had to much to list done to it but for a stock atv i think if u can get traction with the ltr and u know how to go through the gears right which comes from ridein it alot and juss takein the baffel out of ur pipe and the lid offa ur air box u can out run a trx with slight mods done to it in everything but dead top end and the only time ur gonna be usein that is on the hard top or really long drag strips i know the one we race at i a wound out half way through the strip but i get so far ahead of the others out of the wholeshot and through 2nd to 5th gear they don't have enough time or bike to catch me b4 i cross the finish line

Yall gotta be kidding...

I ain't even going to lie... last time around I wanted an LTR 450 BAD! But I passed on it then and have passed on it since. Love the ideal of the out of the box MX quad idea, but at the same time, I ride a lot more than tracks. Some rough stuff and some tight woods. So I wasn't sure about the 18" tires.... and though I loved the width, I wasn't sure about it either.

I also really really liked the looks of the 450R. Wouldn't change a thing about the looks, except trade the hood and headlight for a flat racing hood, and some on/off baja lamps or something. But I didn't find the handling or the gearing to be what I was looking for... not enough so to get me past the idea of the extra maintenance. The 450R has a "push" in the handling and the gearing is too high for my tastes. It's FAST though.

The YFZ on the other hand... I found it to be close to my memory of the 250R... just in a 4 stroke. It was VERY FAST in typical riding conditions, with the sharp handling to match. Equally modified... a lot less rusty riders couldn't hang with it on 450R's. Not on short drags, not on the track and not in the open trails. But on a long open straight run... yes a 450R would run me down and pass me on top speed.

On the other hand, by the time you set up the YFZ for the track, it's about as wide as the LTR 450... and I figure by the time I got a 450R geared where I'd like it, it would be no faster on top end than the YFZ... and after addressing the handling it would probably also be as wide.

In the end, my GUESS is that when all was said and done, the LTR 450 would have an edge over the YFZ 450 and 450R once they were all set up the same... due to the EFI.... and I figure in the end that a man would have less work in it, and probably less money too.... and a really cool frickin bike!!!

Ah well.... that's just my opinion of the three....

I love when people talk about things they no nothing about. In my town we have it all. Preditor, ltr450, yfz450, trx450, 400ex,z400 etc. A buddy of mine just got his LTR450 3 days ago bone stock there is no way it does more than 70mph. Get it straight its an out of the box mx quad. The quad handles like no other 450 out there but is no where near the fastest topspeed. LTR450 is one badass quad but don't be shocked to see it beat by a lot of other quads top end. He raced a kx100 and a 400ex with a big gun exhaust. the kx100 would run beside the ltr450 and the 400ex would pull ahead slightly about a quad length. The honda from my experience is the fastest 450 between the zuki, honda and yamaha. The yfz seems to be dam close but just isn't there. I PERSONALY like the feel of the honda over the yamaha. Nothing beats the badass stance of the LTR450 (low and wide) Hugs the ground.

Top speed

1. Honda trx450
2. Yamaha yfz450
3. Suzuki ltr450

Also note than the only time top speed is used would be on a dirt road or a field. If you ride trails I don't see anyone ever hitting top speed on a trail. And all the new 450's are badass just buy one a ride don't fight about whos is faster just race.

END of Story!
