How often do you replace your K&N filters?

K&N claims that their filters are good for as long as you take care of them. As long as you clean your filter and oil it on a regular basis, it should hold up "forever". I don't think that it loses any efficiency over time, although I may be incorrect.
I had a Uni filter before I purchased the K&N. Now, I am using the Uni again due to the damage done to my K&N. It was moderately/severly damaged when it came off on the MX track without me knowing. It bounced around for a while in the airbox, and smashed it up pretty bad. (I felt like a totally idiot when I discovered it was disconnected from the air boot.) I suppose it is still "usable", but I went ahead and replaced it with my old Uni. I will more than likely buy a new K&N in the near future, but I will keep the Uni as a backup or for use on extremely harsh conditions.
There is no doubt that the K&N filters help out quite a bit. I not only own one for my 400EX, but I have one on my truck as well. You can realy tell that it helps out on automobiles. It accelerates quicker, and feels stronger. I hope I helped, and I'm sorry if I've just babbled on about things of little importance.

As soon as you can. Go get a UNI filter. The K&N filter is not what all its cracked up to be on a quad. It will let dust by. Even when oiled to the max and cleaned everyday. I even bought the outerwear and sealed off my airbox. I still had a fine layer of dust in the intake tube. It's not just me either, alot of guys will tell you this. If you care about your engine, then go back to a foam filter.

I ride in sand and hardpack under very dusty conditions. I have had K&N's on everything vehicle I've owned. I don't ever have a problem with dust getting through. For my quads, I keep 2 for each. One is in and one is ready. I switch after a day of riding, clean the dirty one. I have one in my GMC dually. It's supposed to last for 100,000 miles. So far it has lasted 130,000!
I'm not knocking Uni, I just have always had great luck with K&N.
