03 Foreman Traxlok Problem

Default 03 Foreman Traxlok Problem

Hello, I am having an issue with my 03 foreman 450. When I start it up in 2WD, after a few seconds the 4X4 light will blink, a series of 6 flashes, then a pause then 6 flashes again. Once the lgihts starts to flash you can not engage 4WD. It does this rrepetitively until I turn the key off. Then if I move the selecter to 4WD, and start it up, it will lock into 4WD, with no problems, and can then be shifted to 2WD.

Any ideas as to the problem?

6 flashes points to the alternator. Hows the battery? hows the connections to it?
Theres a troubleshooting guide in the service manual, if you dont have one, i can help step you through it.
Also check the connections at the fcc unit, final clutch control unit, its the long narrow box, with the long connector, kind of above the right tire, mounted to the frame.
Then put it in 4wd and drive it at over 6 mph for more than 30 secs, and see what flashes then. If it still blinks, then youve probably got an open wire.

I dont have the service manual. I'll check out the connections, but the battery has been fine with no problems starting. Would it be possible to scan a copy of the troubleshooting steps for me? I can give me my email if you can scan it in.

Wish i had an electronic copy or scanner, but all i have is the book.
The trouble shooting isnt that long, but the pictures and diagrams can be hard to convey.
Heres your next steps, if it still has the 6 flashes, after the one minute ride at more than 6mph in 4wd.
Disconnect the connectors at the fcc unit and alternator. Check the yellow wires between the two connectors. Should be continuity, and not shorted to ground. If normal...
Check the alternator out put, but if your battery has been staying charged, its probably good, unless the voltage coming out is higher than 15.5 volts at 4500 rpm.
If everything looks good, it leaves the fcc unit itself.
