Default Athena 480 kit

I'm going to be getting the Athena 480 kit soon. Who has this on their R? How does it run? Did it make alot of difference? Can anyone tell me a few places that sell them that I can check out? I want to check prices and see what options there are for different compresion ratios? Do all the kits come with the same compression ratio, or do you have an option for what piston they send with the kit? Any info would help. Thanks in advance.

i have it on my R and i love it. there is definitely a difference. the only compression ratio offered is 12:1(i think) but only one. this kit makes the bike hard as hell to kick though. still starts on like 3rd or 4th kick, but hot start button is always necessary. i got mine on discount because i work at a dealer, you can find a kit for like $650 on ebay. reg price is like 800

I put one on mine but have yet to go for break-in ride.
I have a 10.7:1 piston. I got mine on ebay for $460.00 from Beasley Motorsports.
TL450R, did yours smoke on cold start up until you got it broke in and the rings seated?
Mine smokes every cold start but I'm hoping once I get it broke in it stops that.
I also had my head ported and polished.

dude what are you waitng for? go ride that thing! im curious to know how it reacts throught the ENTIRE rpm range.

id prob stick with the 10.7 piston and get porting/polishing done as welll; who did this for you?

$460 isnt bad for that. the cheapest ive seen was like $699.

what cam are you all running?

Twenty,
I've been working so much lately I haven't had time to go for a ride.
I bid on ebay for it and was surprised I won the bid at $460.00 (I started at $450.00)
It had a buy it now price of $525.00 so I saved quite a few bucks.
I had the porting done locally from an engine builder in the town next to mine. I got the porting and new valve seals for $225.00
I am running a Hotcam Stage II , FMF Q2 slip-on, Uni filter and a cut open airbox lid (HRC style)

yeah i know what thats like. work seems to take over. the american reality has it backwards though - instead of working for a living sometimes we are living to work!

americans are working way more hrs than the europeans and getting close to the japanese in hrs worked per week. yet i dont care what they say i think we earn less for what we do. bust our @ss all week and then pay at the pump, pay taxes on everything - the dollar when you earn it, when you spend it, everywhere...we've got to stop this! we must enjoy precious life more. we must ride!

Don't let him fool you. Red rod is his own boss. He works, just so he can make his R, faster than mine.

sorry i took so long to get back, i was on vacation. i bought my kit from parts unlimited. of course i get a discount becasue i work at a dealer. mine does kinda smoke on cold start, and sometimes on warm ones still. i just ordered my yosh TRC exhaust, so once i get it, i will have to check the valves and redo the jetting. got the HRC cam. how did the porting and polishing help? noticable?

I've been so busy I just took it for it's break in ride last Saturday for about an hour.
I'll have to say it has massive power! I had a hard time getting the stock tires to hook up! I think I'll get a pair of Razr 2's or Holeshot HD's.
It was still smoking on cold start so I broke it back down again on Sunday and re-aligned the oil rings. Just now finished putting it back together and started it. I'm hoping I cured the cold start smoke. Won't know till after another hour or so ride.
The throttle is very sensitive on the bottom due to the porting but I love the way it now has a VERY smooth power delivery throughout the whole throttle range.
I can hardly wait to get it to the Oregon dunes in 19 days!
Gotta see if it will beat my friends Raptor 700. Before I went to the 480 and head work I would just beat his stock 700. Now he has re-mapped the EFI, I think he went to Dual LTE's and an after market filter. No engine work. The guy that did my head work thinks that I will still beat him since the 480R should be quicker. I mean beat him on a flat sand drag and up comp hill.
