Some good oil info.: http://www.thumperfaq.com/oil.htm

I ran Honda oils years ago, but they are now SJ (a downgrade from SG), so I no longer use them, but no clutch problems whatsoever even using HP4 synth blend.

NO, SYNTHETICS WILL NOT MAKE YOUR CLUTCH SLIP! I have run Maxima Extra (API SG/JASO MA) in EVERYTHING for years. My clutches are as good as gold! Some car oils will make it slip however, and as will Honda HP4M, with moly. (HP4M is JASO MB and intended for use ONLY in the engine side of a 250/450.)

Personally, when I broke mine in I did put a load on it running up grades and what not, but I wouldn't rev it against the limiter or do sustained full throttle runs for the first 20 hrs or so.

I did my 1st oil change at like 9 hrs since I was planning a multi day riding trip and would be well over 20 by the time I was back. Then I did oil and filter again, valves (were in spec), air filter, clutch adjustment. I think I waited to the 3rd oil change to switch to synthetic.

If you are going to have the quad for a while, I'd recommend getting the factory manual.

I thought they were like $9, but it's been a while since I bought some.

Anyhow, I would change the filter each oil change...

That sounds better. I knew they weren't that expensive.

Now that I think about it, I think when I first had mine, someone sold me the wrong filter for like $15, too, and I had to take it back... Musta been for a Rincon or something.
