Hey
I have a question for all of you 250X owners. I'm going to look at one tommorow, but i'm wondering if they have reverse or not? How about starters...are they kick start or electric start?
I think it's an 87...but i'm not totally sure, but it is an atv (four wheeler, not three).
Thanks in advance
Mike

It doesn't have the electric start but it is really easy to start even when i is cold. I love my 87 250X. It is very reliable.

I had a 92 and I loved it, I always will. Easy to start, reverse, easy to launch. I did a cool mod on mine involving a piece of coat hanger. You disconect the cable for engaging reverse from the clutch lever and the lever on the case. Engage the lever on the case and tie it so that it stays like that. You now have quick access to reverse. All you need to do is be in neutral and flip the reverse lever with your heel, no more neutral, release clutch, push button on clutch, pull clutch back in just to flip into reverse.

It is my understanding that the early 250Xs were plagued with a 3rd gear malfunction. My cousin had one and rode it even after I told him there was something wrong with 3rd gear and he severely damaged his transmission as well as cracking at least one of his case halves.

If you ride it and it seems like there is a tooth missing on the sprocket when you are in third gear. That is what it was like on my cousins.

Hey 265x
I am wondering if it is worth to fix my quad 250x up alot. Do you feel it is large enough for you. I am a teenager and my x is a perfect now. Maybe a little big. What mods made the biggest differnt to you x?? I am looking at the 350xx conversion.
what do u think??
thanks alot

the biggest difference was the suspension. i baught it w/ the 350X rear end on it and it was sooo much better then the stock that my friend had. he liked it soo much that he did the same to his! its not to hard i just had to use some washers to space the swingarm correctly. the front suspensoin made such a difference on the track! i dont like it in the woods. if i know im going woods riding i put the stock front aarms and my back up works shocks and narrow the durablue up. i love it im 6'1" 160lbs. and i feel moe comfortable on it than i did on my warrior, banshee, 400ex, or R. its super i love it sooo much but i need more power! i like my works shocks those would be a real good mod for the money i got the double rates w/ no rezzys for woods and stuff they were my first race shocks and thay worked good (soo much better than stock) the only reason y i havnt put the 350X motor in mine is cause a good 250X motor will put out just as much power as a 350X and the 250 is lighter which will wear you out less on a track (every ounce counts) and thats also why i dont use skid plates!
