Does K&N really work better then uni

I now have a nicely modified engine due to a K&N sucking dirt. Many will argue, but I have the modified engine to prove it, and they will not convince me otherwise, as I never had dirt in my intake tract until I put a K&N on (I ride and race in extremely dusty conditions sometimes).
If you must use a K&N be sure to get an outerwears.
Now, on another note. I have tested a K&N vs a stock filter with the stock flame arrestor screen (metal cage inside of the stock filter). I have found that even though a K&N will ultimately flow more, a stock filter flows more than enough for even a modified 400EX engine. The main restriction is the airbox intake.
We did some timed drag races on two different bikes and tested both the K&N and Stock filters on both, the filter did not affect the outcomes on either bike (yes we made sure jetting was correct, as we were also testing modified airbox designs the same day).
My recommendation, save your money & don't worry about sucking dirt.

Read the find print on the K&N box. Do not use in dusty conditions. The K&N will flow more air, but it will let the very fine dust go though. Any foam filter will stop the fine dust. I was given a sample of this NO TOIL cleaner and oil for foam filters. From the use that we have had so far it works great in the dust that we have hear in Mo. It is also very easy to clean. I think earier than the K&N.
