Honda 300 coil problem?
I'm working on a buddy's 1988 Honda Fourtrax 300 that he can't seem to keep running or start for that matter. When he dropped it off I thought I would just do some maintainance to it like changing the oil, air filter, spark plug, etc. to see if that helped. Now I can't get it to fire at all. When I pull the plug out and see if it sparks it will hit once and that's it. I tried to see if all the wires were connected to the coil and they were. I unplugged it then plugged it back together and the engine run a split second and quit. I unplugged it again and checked the spark. Same thing. Fired once and wouldn't do it again. This makes me believe it is a faulty coil because I had a Bayou do this once where when I hit the starter it sounded like it was spinning alot faster than normal and I found that the connection was bad. I fixed that and it fired right up. Do you think I'm on the right track? I'm not a mechanic or anything and I don't want to start ordering stuff and be back at square one. Any other ideas?
