go buy a ratio rite it is a little cup with the ratio marked on the side very user freindly it will take your guess work away.

also whith the big bore 2 strokes it is very important to be aware of your jetting. you may need to rejet from inland to the coast.

i was running the esr 310 trx7 full port kit with LRD adjustable and no air box/K&N with a 38mm airstryker on an 86.

I was out a piston within 5 hours on that kit cause esr did not chamfer the exhaust port correctly, i took it to one of the few true 250R gods there really are who re-chamfered the ports, and touched up the porting, when he was done with it it was running a 190 mj (which was also the reccomended jet from esr), and i think i was running 42:1 (right around there 50:1 with a few extra squirts) with maxima oil, this was running 115 octane with the 114 octane dome in the head. i am at about 85' altitude.

176 seems like way to small of a jet for a two stroke im running a 248 in my blaster with the 240 big bore kit.

ESR suggested my pilot jet be at least 50. the one I got from the kit is a 35. problem fixed.
That goes back to my intial post about checking your jetting, a small pilot like that will idle high, and if you stab it it will hesitate until it gets into the needle circut. I run a 55-58 pilot, CEL 4th from top, and a 210 main. 39PWK

Hoppedrap,

that is why I changed the main jet to a 175. inexperience was not realizing there was a pilot jet.

the jet kits you can get from esr only show a 185, how do you get a 190 or a 210? does the factory sell them?

a small pilot like that will idle high, and if you stab it it will hesitate until it gets into the needle circut.
that is exacly what was happening.

I talked to a guy over at the coast the same weekend and he told me he has gone through 3 kits and each one he melted the piston like I did. he said his jetting was perfect too. I wonder if his porting was messed up too? hope mine isn't.

I will get a 180-185 jets and play around with it. cheaper to foul a plug then to melt a piston I will also get a ratio rite jug. I have seen those too.

also whith the big bore 2 strokes it is very important to be aware of your jetting. you may need to rejet from inland to the coast.
I know this, but I did not realize the pilot jet. I thought my 175 was good enough. apparently I was wrong. 175 was perfect for inland, so I will more than likely jump to a 180 or 182

Thanks guys, this has helped a lot.

Heres a good link for two stroke carbs. http://www.duncanracing.com/techfaq/...-jetting.phtml

Your current jets should be fine for your setup, the only thing I would do is pickup a CEL needle and start on the third clip, 185 main,55-58 pilot. Then test each circut and adjust accordingly

50:1 is perfectly fine if its a full synthetic. 32 or 40:1 is for semi synthetic oil. full synthetic is 50:1 your good man.
